Stephen Maricich M.D., Ph.D.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Maricich is a seasoned drug developer with more than 15 years of industry and academic experience. Dr. Maricich has development experience with small molecules, biologics, cellular and gene therapies in multiple therapeutic areas including cancer, GI disease, hematology, neurology and rare disease. He is a board-certified child neurologist with an 8-year academic career including research and faculty roles at several leading university affiliated pediatric teaching hospitals. Prior to joining Ashvattha, he served as Chief Medical Officer at Calibr and Scrips Bioventures. There, he oversaw the development for clinical-stage oncology and GI programs and designed clinical paths for preclinical programs across a wide range of indications. Dr. Maricich’s previous experience includes the Chief Medical Officer role at Allievex, a rare disease start-up company that he helped to develop from BioMarin Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Maricich earned his undergraduate degree from SUNY Buffalo and M.D./Ph.D. (Neuroscience) degrees from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Maricich completed general pediatrics training at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital followed by child neurology fellowship training and postdoctoral work studying the genetic control of brain development at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital.
